AReS Gateway

While the AReS ODS 6 Server is a single instance of an ASAM ODS Server, requirements for larger production systems may need further scalability. Especially, when an increasing number of consumers utilize the ASAM ODS web service this is the case.

 

The AReS Gateway implementation is based on the Plankton microservices platform and a server-less variant of the AReS ODS 6 Server. Thus, it is a horizontally scalable process. Each component of the AReS functionality is encapsulated into a microservice making the functionality of the AReS ODS 6 Server globally accessible, polyglot available, and on-demand scalable.

Scalability and Balance

The AReS Gateway implementation is based on the Plankton microservices platform and a server-less variant of the AReS ODS 6 Server. Thus, it is a horizontally scalable process. Each component of the AReS functionality is encapsulated into a microservice making the functionality of the AReS ODS 6 Server globally accessible, polyglot available, and on-demand scalable.

Also, the AReS Gateway is a load-balancer as well as a reverse proxy distributing payloads to backend AReS ODS 6 Servers or scalable Plankton services.

Aggregation & Combination

To the user, the AReS Gateway is a full-fledged ODS server providing the ASAM ODS 6.1 API. The backend is far more flexible: ON the one hand, the AReS Gateway combines native ASAM ODS data sources such as the Avalon ODS Server and the AReS ODS 6 Server. Additionally, none-ODS sources like Elastic Search indexers, Cassandra time series databases, Parquet and Avro files, and other are or can be integrated.

Thus, the AReS Gateway does not only manage different project containers but allows differently structured data stored in various technologies.

Monitoring & Logging

The AReS Gateway allows centralized monitoring of all requests and how they get processed. This assists the administration of the overall system and complements operationality by keeping an overview of the fail-safe and load-balancing features.

Fail-Safe Mode

The AReS Gateway comes with satellite fail-safe mode in a microservices environment. The setup covers for single nodes failing while guaranteeing that the system operability is provided. The main objective is to provide a 24/7 level of operation.

Load-Balancing

Load balancing is one of the key features provided by the AReS Gateway. While all queries are run through a single node, they are processed by a scalable number of AReS ODS 6 Servers or single services nodes. Depending on setup various kinds of load-balancing can be implemented to suit the requirements of the system.

Globalization

The AReS Gateway is a flexible entry node for enterprise solutions. Global projects may not only require additional performance but also a “single point of truth” for data location. The AReS Gateway also supports this feature by enhancing the setup with additional Plankton services. All data can always be accessed within one entry point.
